Warpath

The Warpath Collection gathers the instruments of ceremony, battle, and ritual power — the drums, horns, and flutes that have rallied armies, invoked spirits, and marked the most significant moments in human history. The Native American cedar flute's courting song, the frame drum's universal pulse, and the horagai's mountain war call.

Courting Song

A two-chambered end-blown flute made from cedar or softwoods. A block (the "bird") directs air across an edge to create sound. According to Lakota tradition, a young man heard a woodpecker drumming on a hollow branch, and the wind created a haunting melody. Nearly died out due to cultural suppression but revived by R. Carlos Nakai and others.

Mountain War Horn

A large Triton conch shell blown as a trumpet, used by Yamabushi mountain warrior-monks and samurai armies. Produces a powerful, haunting tone that carries for kilometers across mountain valleys.
